Iranian science minister urges stronger incentives to retain top talent

Iran’s Minister of Science, Hossein Simayi Sarraf, has emphasized the need to create more incentives for retaining the country’s brightest minds while reducing factors that drive them to emigrate.

Speaking at a meeting with AI innovators and tech entrepreneurs at Tarbiat Modares University, Simayi Sarraf underscored the importance of fostering a dynamic and innovation-driven economy.

He highlighted that science and technology parks—both within and outside university settings—play a crucial role in motivating creative students and strengthening the country’s knowledge-based economy.

Addressing the current educational model, the minister criticized traditional teaching methods and called for a shift toward AI-driven learning.

He stressed that while universities are evolving toward “third, fourth, and fifth-generation institutions,” education remains the foundation of all sciences and must be continuously enhanced with cutting-edge technologies.

Simayi Sarraf acknowledged that migration is influenced by various factors, but warned that the real concern arises when individuals lose their sense of belonging to their homeland.

He urged policymakers to work on reducing deterrents and enhancing the appeal of staying in Iran.

The minister also pointed to the outdated operational structure of the Science Ministry, stating that it needs modernization through AI and digital tools.

He assured innovators that the ministry is open to new ideas and is willing to fund projects aimed at upgrading its administrative systems with advanced technologies.
