Ruhollah Dehghani, vice president of science, technology and knowledge-based economy, emphasized that the real added value in large industries is created with the help of the lower links of the value chain, i.e., knowledge-based companies, and added: When we talk about knowledge-based economy; We are referring exactly to the importance and price of added value, in this form of economy; Innovation, knowledge and creative manpower are efficient.

By giving an example, he explained the importance of the downstream links of the value chain in profitability with the help of innovation and said: In a large and traditional industry like steel, there are infrastructures and the wealth of the factory is evaluated based on those criteria. Lands of several 10 hectares, huge and expensive equipment and large buildings are considered as assets of this industry. In addition to this amount of physical and infrastructure assets, the human resources employed are mostly non-specialists. This is the case in the upper links of the value chain in most industries.

Dehghani continued: But at the bottom of the value chain, we have seen innovative and small companies including manufacturers of metal medical equipment or dental implants, which bring multiple profits in a small area and with specialized manpower, with limited physical assets. Therefore, it is the bottom of the value chain of an industry that creates the fruit and the real added value.

Vice President of Science, Technology and Science-based Economy, stating that the same value chain can be observed in a fruitful tree, added: the trunk of a stout tree is full of branches and leaves that actually play the role of side companies. However, in the main branches we see the main fruit. It is the flowers that turn the sap and raw material of the trunk and branches into fruit and real added value. In the steel industry, the trunk of the tree is the factory, and the branches connected to the trunk are the side companies; But at the end of the spectrum, it is the knowledge-based companies that create the real added value and the main fruit.

The role of investment in the value creation of the industry

Emphasizing that the role of knowledge-based companies in large industries is possible with the presence of private sector investment and this is possible with the presence of successful companies, he added: therefore, corporate venture funds are very progressive and efficient and are the key to connecting this valuable trunk to the branches that are to be produce valuable fruit.
