More than 75% of Iranian students study “science and engineering” in the United States
According to the information center of national elites foundation quoted by the technology and innovation analytical news headquarter, A 2014 study by the Middle East Policy Institute in Washington on Iranian students in the US has striking results.
The study was conducted on four topics of education level, field of study, status of duty and survival rate of these students. Accordingly, in a report compiled by Sharif University of Technology's Science, Technology and Industry Policy Institute, 82 percent of Iranian students in the United States study for graduate or higher degrees, the highest percentage among countries that have sent students to the United States, with the majority of those enrolled in Ph.D.
In addition, 75% of Iranian students study in the fields of “science and engineering” in the United States.
This is the highest percentage of science and engineering graduates from the first 20 student countries to the US, 56% of whom study engineering fields and India is ranked second with 36% students.
Six Percent of Iranian students in the US Have Chosen Social Sciences and Humanities
According to the report, four percent of Iranian students study business, the lowest rate among first-time student countries. According to the report, six percent of Iranian students study in the fields of social sciences and humanities.
The next topic of this research is to serve these students. According to the report, from 70% of men who have not completed their military service in Iran, 34% can receive exemptions and 36% can receive educational exemptions but must complete their military service when returning to Iran.
Of the 30% who served, 12% served in the military, 5% in the Naja, 5% in the IRGC, 2% in the Ministry of Defense, and 6% in other agencies.
According to the report by the national science foundation of the United States that surveys the number of people with a PhD in the field of science and engineering, 89% of Iranian students intend to stay in the United States after graduation during 2005-2011.
This percentage, which is known as the "survival rate" in the labor and education economy, is higher than other student countries. However, on average, only 55 percent of these students said they have specific programs that allow them to stay.
According to the NSF 2017 report on the tenure of temporary visa holders from the first 10 countries of origin, Iran ranks first with 92%. India, China and Turkey also rank second to fourth, respectively.
