According to the International Organization for Migration (2018) statistics, more than 257 million and 700,000 people worldwide are immigrants, meaning that they are living abroad.

It should be noted that half of all immigrants from the world have migrated from developing countries to developed countries and the rest have migrated between developed countries.

According to Parviz Karami, the advisor to the vice president for science and technology affairs, we read in the book of “international displacement of students and graduates”: 35% of all immigrants in the world are high-skilled or college-level immigrants.

Iran is not among the top 20 countries with the highest number of people who plan to migrate

The spokesperson of the Vice-Presidency mentioned: with the global trend towards international migration, the tendency to migrate among Iranians has also increased. In a report by the Gallup Institute in 2015 on the willingness to immigrate and prepare for immigration, Iran ranks ninth among the 20 countries with the highest desire to immigrate.

Karami mentioned that a small number of those who has the intention of immigration actually emigrate, adding: according to the report, one million and 800,000 Iranians have expressed an interest in and desire to emigrate, of which only 400,000 have stated that they have a specific immigration plan or are preparing to emigrate.

In the mentioned book, we read: Iran is not among the top 20 countries in terms of the number of people who have an immigration program compared to the total population of the country.

Achieving prosperity, security, and a better future are the main causes of the migration of Iranian youth

The advisor to the vice president for science and technology affairs marked: a survey study of more than 410,000 Iranian students and graduates abroad in 2016-2017 conducted by Sharif University of Science and Technology Policy and Research Institute and Demographic Studies Institute shows the importance of different educational factors - research, work - employment, political - social, cultural - welfare, affecting the migration and return of individuals to the country.

Emphasizing that various factors are involved in immigration, Karami continued: according to the studies cited in this book, among the educational factors of research: the quality of research education courses, among the personal - family factors: the desire to have a degree and work experience abroad, among the cultural - social factors: law and order and social cohesion and among the socio-political factors: social security and peace were the most important factors affecting the migration of Iranian students and graduates.

Karami also affirmed: in another study conducted by the Center for Strategic Studies of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the most response to the question of “what is the main cause of immigration of the youth?” was achieving welfare, security and a better future, followed by freedom (22.4%), occupation (14.1%), education (11%), and better culture (7.2%).
