The indigenous medical plants database of Iran is a project that provides valuable information about effective compounds of plants to researchers. The second phase of the project will be soon started by adding information about 100 top medical plants in the ecosystem of Iran.       

According to the information center of national elites foundation, the second phase of the database of physicochemical properties of active ingredients in Iranian ecological medicinal plants will be established with the support of the Vice-Presidency.

Rouhollah Firouzi, the faculty at chemistry and chemical engineering research center of Iran and the executive manager of the project, stated: by classifying the physical, chemical, pharmaceutical and computational information related to the active ingredients in Iranian medicinal plants in the form of this website, this research project allows targeted and fast search for specialists and researchers active in the field of medicine (synthesis and design). Currently, information on 226 plants is available at this site.

Pointing out the cooperation of the medical plants and traditional medicine sciences and technologies development headquarter, he added: soon the second phase of the project will be established, which includes information about 100 top medical plants in the ecosystem of Iran.

Domestication

Mentioning some of the ecological characteristics of medicinal plants in Iran, he asserted: the most important achievement of this project is the digitization of physico-chemical information of active ingredients in Iranian medicinal plants in the form of a targeted database. Different types of search in the database have created an opportunity for pharmacy researchers of the country to propose plant-based alternatives to synthesized drugs in the market that lead to high currency export.  

According to Firouzi, such databases are significantly crucial for introducing indigenous medical plants of Iran. In this regard, he continued: the introduction of valuable and indigenous medicinal plants in Iran can lead to new investments and the production of knowledge-based technologies in this field. In addition, the field of export of medicinal plants of the country will be strengthened, because the existence of such databases will establish a great connection between the companies producing medicinal plants and researchers in this field.
